We are pleased to announce that Red Squirrel OT CIC has been chosen to participate in the
@coopuk Local Community Fund. Out of more than 6,500 applications across the UK, local Co-op managers selected Red Squirrel OT CIC in recognition of our commitment to enhancing health and wellbeing through compassionate, person-led support for individuals affected by hoarding disorder.
Funds raised will be allocated to our Buried in Treasures programme, a 16-week evidence-based initiative designed to help participants better understand their relationship with possessions, build emotional resilience, and restore confidence in daily life.

Programme Significance
Hoarding disorder is a recognised mental health condition impacting approximately 1.2 million people in the UK, many of whom do not have access to adequate support. Contrary to common misconceptions, hoarding is not simply an issue of disorganisation; it is often rooted in trauma, anxiety, and loss. Our methodology focuses on helping individuals comprehend the motivations behind their behaviour and develop sustainable strategies for managing it, rather than removing belongings.
The Buried in Treasures small-group course utilises Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) - and some occupational therapy - principles to address:
● The underlying thoughts and emotions associated with acquiring and retaining items
● Practical decluttering techniques and decision-making tools
● Approaches to rebuild self-confidence and social connections
Participants are supported throughout the process to achieve change that fosters long-term improvement. Research indicates that over 70% of attendees report significant positive transformations in the way they perceive, feel about, and interact with their possessions.
How to Support
Co-op members can support our cause by selecting Red Squirrel OT CIC as their chosen organisation in the Co-op app: https://coopapp.onelink.me/ftOk/2ad8vdh6
Every choice made serves to enhance access to this important programme for individuals in our community requiring assistance.
“We’re over the moon to have been selected for the Co-op Local Community Fund,” says Brigitte. “We hope our wonderful community, especially those who know someone struggling or have used our service, will support us by choosing Red Squirrel OT CIC as their cause. Together, we can make a real difference.”
